Who should use GeoCivil?

Geocomp Users

GeoCivil is the logical Windows replacement for the DOS based Geocomp as it provides a high degree of compatibility, making the learning process much easier. An experienced Geocomp user can be productive with GeoCivil within a few hours.

The main features and benefits of GeoCivil for a Geocomp user:

Adoption of common “option numbers” where appropriate. For example:

  1 - Open File

2 - Define Level and Feature or Entity

3 - Create Point Element by Coordinates

  4 - Create Point - Traversing

  5 - Create Point - Radiation

6 - Create Point by Square Offsets

  7 - Define Stand Point

8 - Define Bearing Datum Difference

  9 - Assign New Height

10 - Assign Description to Element

11 - Create Point by Two Distances

12 - Create by Dist From One Pt and Brg from Another

13 - Create Points Along Line

14 - Join Toggle

15 - Join Coords with Line Elements

16 - Save Data to Selected File

17 - Measure Vector Between Coords, etc

Retention of your current entity definition through the Geocomp.ENT file. As a consequence, you can load your existing Geocomp files (PTS, STR, ANT, DMN, LTO, TRI, etc) into GeoCivil. When you create a DTM in GeoCivil the entities to be included and breakline entities from Geocomp are automatically recognised.

GeoCivil supports the Geocomp FLD file with all of its field codes (arc through 3 points, circle, additional feature code, close string, remove height, etc) and introduces a number of new field codes:

24  Rectangle from last three points (after meas)

25  Rectangle from side and width (after meas)

26  Adjust Line of Sight Distance (after meas)

27  Adjust Target Laterally (after meas)

50  Surface number

51  Hidden Point - 2 shots taken on non-vertical staff/pole

52  Create elements parallel to current selection / last string

53  Hotspot: Image number and direction.

54  Assign height attribute to point using vertical circle

The Geocomp subdivision checker (option 75) has been enhanced to be more powerful in GeoCivil. This process is seen as being integral to the pending digital lodgement of subdivisions.

GeoCivil allows multiple DTM surfaces to co-exist in a single project making the calculation of volumes and extraction of sections from multi-surfaces to be much easier. Geocomp DTMs can be loaded directly into GeoCivil (via the .TRI file), as can be Geocomp contours (.CON file).

GeoCivil’s Road Design module will import Geocomp HAL and VAL files, and includes comprehensive super-elevation, widening development, table drains, verges, benching and comprehensive battering.

GeoCivil’s comprehensive symbol library includes the Geocomp “400 series” symbols. As symbols are simply Autocad blocks held as individual DWG files, new symbols can be readily added.

Import a Geocomp plot file (.PLT) and output as DWG.

Autocad Users

GeoCivil creates fully Autocad compatible drawings using Autocad symbols, linestyles, blocks, XRefs, etc. The GeoCivil / Autocad combination provides the best of both worlds, enabling a surveyor to work in a "points based" environment using proven "Aussie" methods whilst creating "international standard: drawings.

 CivilCad Users

GeoCivil reads and writes Civilcad ASC files (ver 4 & 5) plus includes road design functionality possessing a high degree of Civilcad compatibility.

 MX Users

GeoCivil reads and writes GENIO and can also provide direct access to the MX model file. Using the associated MX PSS file and Macros, GeoCivil will display data to match the MX representation.

MX Geometry Strings can be loaded into GeoCivil and output for setout in a number of formats including TP Stakeout.

The GeoCivil Road Design module includes MX compatible Horizontal and Vertical alignment forms and toolbars.
